I got suckered into finally joining Facebook. I'm not addicted yet; blogging is still my thing. The interesting thing for me so far about Facebook is that I get to see people I haven't seen in ages and see what's happened in their lives since we last spoke to each other.
While searching for friends, I've exclaimed in my head things like, "Whoa, he's got a baby now?" "So, that's what her husband looks like." "Oh my gosh, how did he end up with such a hot-looking girlfriend?" "Wow, he's still alive and not in jail yet!" "Oh yeah, her...I wonder if she's still a cold-hearted butch?"
Then I got a message from an old university buddy who exclaimed to me, "You're engaged?!?" I'm not sure what he meant by that, but I congratulated him on his THIRD child.
All these new revelations about past friends have got me thinking about how quickly life flies by:
- watching Sesame Street
- using my Brooke Shields Barbie doll as target practice for my favourite Nerf football
- Poltergeist
- eating sushi for the first time
- birth of my best friend
- trying to suffocate my best friend (hehe, you ok, Mindy?)
- TPDoubleW
- owning Jelly Shoes
- Chinese skip
- New Kids on the Block
- baptism
- Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
- basketball tournaments
- Grade 12 provincials
- prom (and that my curfew that night was 11pm)
- attending the first wedding among my friends (she got it annulled)
- getting my driver's license (after three tries)
- my first job
- ending an eight-year relationship
- changing churches
- getting contact lens
- my first teaching job
- meeting D again
- Ireland
- my first car (that I bought with my own money)
- getting engaged
- and all the other in-betweens like weddings, hospital visits, graduations, and funerals
Feel free to add personal memories to my list. By no means is it comprehensive, but I challenged myself to see what I could come up with in two minutes. I know -- I'm a geek. Sometimes, life doesn't seem to be moving fast enough. Most times, too many things happen all at once and I want to hit a pause button to give me a chance to breathe. Now is one of those times. I stand at the threshold of another milestone. Edit: many milestones. Life is going way too fast sometimes.
It's neat to catch up with old friends. Growing old is not bad because it could be worse. I could be denying it in between getting Botox injections and drinking Tiger Gut Longevity Soup.
Dear Lord, thanks for Your presence in my life and thank You for all the people who have come and gone or have come and stayed in my life. Amen.
