Back

I've just returned from my semi-motherland (being Taiwanese, I have mixed feelings about my "roots") and my mind is still reeling from my experiences in Hong Kong and rural China. These are the places...

where the sign posts are somewhat amusing:

where English is definitely still a foreign language:

where a man haunts his own house with his spirit before the Communists took over the property:

where knock-offs are popular:

where the old meet the new:

where an alley decides the luck of a people:

where safety doesn't come first:

where entertainment and exercise machines are free:

where an old way of life is still being lived:

where a threat of violence is always present:

but where changes for freedom are slowly making their way in:

More observations to come later!

it's better to be servered than severed =)

did you get a chance to use the prayer chamber?

When my father-in-law got a number to be...umm...served, there were sixty people ahead of him. I think he would almost rather be "se[r]vered" than wait that long.

D and I prayed just outside actually. There was a quiet space nearby and we sat there and prayed. There were a number of people (all individually praying) in that room already.
