I read an article about the Mongol Rally, a rally that spikes my interest for a number of reasons: it involves travel, cars, and charity.
In short, this Mongol Rally, affectionately known as a "crap-car rally," consists of 200 teams from around the world who attempt to traverse the area between London, England and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia for charitable organizations. The only rules are that each team's car must have an engine no larger than a litre and has been purchased for less than $800 CDN.
The Mongol Rally sounds like something right up my alley. I would get to see many European destinations while supporting a worthy cause. But the reality is, I don't have the time and the money. "Carpe diem" Horace says, but what are my chances of going?
Is anyone interested, motivated, and crazy enough to go with me?

I'm interested, not very motivated ('cause I'm a lazy bum anyways), but heck ya you know I'm CRAZY!! :D
btw, never knew there was a place called Ulaanbaatar. I can't even pronounce the place. *paperbag over head* :p
You know I'm all for travel, charity and crazies!
I don't like driving much tho! And it looks like we need to know about cars (or how to fix 'em) too. I know how to add windshield fluids and I *think* I know how to change tires. Would that do?? Or would our BCAA work over there??
And I finally renewed my passport! So, let's go fill up the pages! ^_~ Tho we'll be driving... hmm... so we can't get an Ulaanbaatar stamp. darn!
Angela and Maafa: The more I think about this rally, the more I realize how dangerous and challenging (mentally and physically) it is and I don't think I'm ready for that. Sorry to get your hopes up. Maybe in 2010?
i read an article in a car mag recently that had a similar concept: car can't cost more than 500bucks and make it across the USA in record time (relatively speaking).
hilarity ensued, most cars broke down in 5 miles.

Yah, there's that aspect, too. The mechanical know-how to fix that crap car when it breaks down at the start line.
Well then, I guess Ang & I will just have to create our own rally by going out to Mission. ^_^
