I shielded you from the hard hand of discipline by calmly explaining what the bright red light on the telephone meant and showing you how to make it go away.

Disappear?

I gazed upon the blood that trickled from your brow that horrible night of pirates and mini-Sherlock Holmes.

I wept inside while I listened to how you couldn't find yourself.

I laughed when I heard what song you had to walk to while you joined the rest of your graduating class.
